Marine Early Warning (Marine-EW) is a service to deliver and disseminate information about the monitoring, forecasting and warning status of different environmental variables, within two service scenarios: 1) Early Warning Forecast ; 2) Climate Indicators.

1) Early Warning Forecast

-       Sea level.

-       Sea Surface Temperature.

-       Significant Wave Height.

-       Wave Period.

2) Climate Indicators

-       Sea level Trend.

-       Sea Surface Temperature Trend.

-       Heat Content Trend.

-       Climate Indexes.

Sea level monitoring information is provided by the Italian "Rete Mareografica Nazionale" (National Tige-gauge Network) managed by "Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale" (ISPRA; http://www.mareografico.it/; http://www.isprambiente.gov.it).

Sea-surface tidal elevation is considered in the sea-level forecast using the Oregon State University Tidal Prediction Software (OTPS; http://volkov.oce.orst.edu/tides/).

Ocean reanalysis data for the Mediterranean Sea, used to define the thresholds that characterize the warning status for the environmental variables considered and in the "Climate Indicators" scenario, are produced by Italian Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV, Bologna, Italy) and delivered through Copernicus/MyOcean (http://marine.copernicus.eu/). 

Global ocean reanalysis data,  used in the "Climate Indicators" scenario, is produced by the Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC; http://www.cmcc.it/c-glors/), Mercator Ocean (http://www.mercator-ocean.fr/), University of Reading (Reading, UK; http://www.reading.ac.uk),  and delivered through Copernicus/MyOcean (http://marine.copernicus.eu/). 

Climate Indexes data is provided by the United States National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR, Boulder, US; https://climatedataguide.ucar.edu/climate-data).

Marine-EW output consists of graphics available through the web browser.

Marine-EW is a product of the TESSA project, created by: 

• Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC),  responsible for the operational research activities, the distribution and visualization of products;
• Links S.p.A., responsible for the deployment of the DSS on the web

Weather forecasts are based on observations and forecasts produced and certified by the Meteorological Service of the Italian Air Force (http://www.meteoam.it/).

 

Ocean products are produced by the Copernicus Marine Service (http://marine.copernicus.eu/)
